For Beginners
Just starting your musical journey? My teaching approach is perfect for helping you develop solid technique and explore your musical expression. We'll build a strong foundation together, focusing on rhythm, scales, and basic harmonies. My lessons provide a safe and encouraging space for personal growth, and I’ll guide you in finding your own musical voice. You can choose your favorite song or piece to work on, or I can suggest repertoire based on your musical taste.
For Intermediate Students
Already comfortable with the basics and ready to take your playing to the next level? In my intermediate lessons, we focus on strengthening your technique and musical flexibility. You'll expand your repertoire, deepen your understanding of harmony, and explore improvisation and expressive playing. You'll also get the opportunity to try out different styles, while receiving practical tips and personalised feedback to support your growth as a musician.
For Advanced Students
If you're an advanced player looking to develop your skills in genres like pop, jazz, or Latin or preparing for entrance to a conservatory, I offer high-level coaching tailored to your goals. We’ll dive deeper into technique, stylistic awareness, and harmonic understanding, while encouraging your own creativity to shine. Each lesson is a balanced mix of repertoire, theory, and improvisation, with plenty of room for personal input and artistic development.
How my lessons are structured
Every lesson begins with a short warm-up to prepare your hands and fingers. We then focus on repertoire, combining technique with musical expression. Music theory and creative exercises help you understand the music you play and support your ongoing development. My goal is to help you grow as a musician, with attention to your unique style and enjoyment of playing.
Music theory & solfège
In my lessons, I include music theory because it helps you understand how music works. This gives you the tools to improvise, compose, and learn new pieces more easily.
I also offer guidance in solfège and ear training, skills that are essential for anyone serious about music. This is especially valuable if you're preparing for a conservatory entrance exam. Having gone through that process myself, I know exactly what’s expected and how to prepare effectively. By combining theory, practice, solfège, and ear training, you’ll learn to make music on a deeper level. It strengthens your playing and musicality, and makes the learning process clearer and more enjoyable, whether you're a beginner or more advanced.
Inspiration
My musical inspiration comes from many different directions, and that mix is at the heart of my teaching. Pianists like Brad Mehldau and Bill Evans have moved me (like many others) with their playing: Mehldau with his lyrical, story-driven improvisation, and Evans with his rich harmonies and tone colors. These musical approaches have shaped my own style and give me tools to help students explore expression, ear training, and the joy of playing. Artists like Rubén Blades, Juan Luis Guerra, and Celia Cruz have also inspired me with their energetic rhythms, strong grooves, and musical storytelling, elements I deeply value when helping students develop timing and expression. In addition, composers like Bach, Chopin, and Debussy remain a lasting source of inspiration in terms of technique, form, and dynamics. Not because I only learned from them, but because they show how music from all over the world can enrich your playing and musicality.
